COP or CAN: Nike Completes Their ASW Releases a Tribute To Women

With All-Star over and done with in Chicago, those of us who weren’t present in the Windy City are finally getting a chance to grab the gear and sneaks we saw peddled to perfection last week. While we broke down a few pieces we were already eyeing, two of the main drops we’ve been waiting for took a key element from the overall feel of ASW sneaker drops: dive deep into the sports culture of the Windy City itself.

Nike opted to honor a local hero with this take on the Blazer Mid. The legendary Dorothy Gaters, who has built a legacy as the Matriarch of Marshall High School and its storied women’s basketball program, was the must for the Nike Blazer Mid which features her school colors in prominent display. The silhouette covers with hits of burgundy and gold, utilizing both on either of the swooshes, heel tabs, and side panels. Black nubuck lines the laterals and the toebox while the overlaid accents add an appeal that also customizable. Even the number “20” that hits the heel is a nod to Gaters and her epic run at Marshall High. Grab a detailed look at these below:

Next up: the Nike Air Force 1 Low Jewel. Always one to cleverly connect dots between two seemingly unrelated events, Nike flexes some creative muscle with this women’s exclusive dressed in black leather and red pinstripes. The Jewel Force 1 made its debut to the market in 1997, the same year the Chicago Bulls introduced their alternate uniforms of black with red pinstripes. Adding some elegance is the pony-hair heel-tab with the Nike Chicago detail, a golden lace dubrae with a Nike Basketball era stamp, and a hangtag boasting a patch reminiscent of the left-side patches on authentic jerseys. Get an up close peek below:

Word is that both the Nike Blazer Mid ‘Dorothy Gaters’ and the Air Force 1 Jewel QS ‘Pinstripe’ is set for general release on Friday, February 21st.
