Sacai’s Chitose Abe has been designing up a storm lately for Nike (have you SEEN her Nike running apparel collab?!). Her newest collaboration is with fashion’s own “enfant terrible”, French designer Jean Paul Gaultier. With its unconventional outer sole shape and stitched-up seams, this statement shoe was made for the maximalists

These bold shoes come in two colorways: black/grey/white and mustard/sesame/blue/white. Texturally this mid cut shoe is a unique, diverse blend of genuine calf leather, mesh, and suede. The chunky baseball glove stitching cuts up the sneaker’s shape, adding to the handcrafted look sacai had developed for previous VaporWaffle designs. The thick waffle sole is made of layers of foam and rubber stacked up high to give the shoe lift.

The timing of this drop couldn’t be more perfect. Jean Paul Gaultier’s iconic 90s long-sleeved mesh tops are making their rounds again with modern brands putting their spin on the look. Gaultier’s affinity for provacateur paired with sacai’s vision for wearable fashion makes this shoe one for the books.
