Throwback Kicks: Cindy Crawford's 1990 Air Jordan Retro 5

Back in 1990, Will Smith was an up-and-coming actor who had just began filming a little sitcom called The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Cindy Crawford was THE top model in the world and the host of a little sitcom on MTV called House of Style. Maybe you've heard of it?

Laughing so hard with @lifeaswillsmith. Talking sneakers and "Humpty Dumpty" for @mtv House of Style. #Mood

A video posted by Cindy Crawford (@cindycrawford) on

We were reminded of this moment is sneaker history after supermodel Cindy Crawford posted a small snippit of MTV’s House of Style, in which Cindy visited the fictional Banks mansion to catch up with a then 22-year-old Smith. Throughout the interview, the model and comedian take a short tour of the NBC stage set, but the highlight of the segment was undoubtedly when Cindy whipped out her own pair of the Jordan Retro 5.

Though many of you may not be old enough to remember House of Style, it was actually kind of a big a deal during the early '90s. Inspired by the supermodel craze that resulted in Cindy, Naomi, Linda, Elle and more, the program debuted in 1989 and captivated its audience with every aspect of the industry, including clothing, models' lives, social issues, and, of course profiling celebrities known for their unique style.

Watch below at the full segment.

Get The Look: Kylie Jenner in American Apparel x Jordan 6 "Infrared"

Kylie Jenner was spotted tip-toein in her Jawdins (the Air Jordan 6 Retro 'Black/Infrared23' to be exact) around West Hollywood late last week and we got the goods on her threads. Kylie Jenner loves holding hands with her Girlfriend

The youngest Jenner paired her Jays with a Solid Long Sleeve Ponte Crop Raglan Sweater by American Apparel.  The simple and versatile cropped sweater, constructed from soft and smooth Ponte fabric, is perfect for both on the go casual looks and dressed up with high waisted skirts and heels.

Screen shot 2015-06-02 at 10.11.10 PM

Simple Cotton Spandex Leggings in black, also by American Apparel, rounded out the black-on-black-on-black look as Kylie accessorized with a $2,550 Givenchy Croc-Embossed Antigona Duffel, an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Watch, and $550 Victoria Beckham Classic Victoria Sunglasses.

Her Jordan 6's were retro-ed last winter in their original colorway. Jordan’s first championship shoe features a black nubuck upper with eye-catching pops of Infrared on the heel and Jumpman logos. If you're looking for a pair for yourself, you can cop them here for about $250.

Thoughts on this simple getup?

Kicks Of The Day: April 21, 2015

unnamed-17 It was special guest day with The Breakfast Club in NYC as hosts Charlamagne, DJ Envy and Angela Yee welcomed Rita Ora to the show. While we were surprised that we didn't see Rita sporting any of her signature adidas Originals, we were please to spot the one and only Ms. Yee in her Jordan Retro 3s. Good choice, Ang.

unnamed-18 Momager Kris Jenner pulled a Khloe with a trip to Gunnar Fitness in her APL Techloom Pro running shoes in White/Black/Cosmic Grey.

unnamed-19 It seems Allyson Felix has a something like the holy grail of sneaker collections - she always pulls out something fresh!  This time, the track star posted up poolside with her cute pup in a pair of Nike LeBron "Fruity Pebble" sneaks.

unnamed-20 Karrueche paired her red sports car with a pair of our favorite sneaks as of late - Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Moire in Game Royal.

unnamed-15 Slow clap foor Sevyn Streeter. The singer exited a hotel with her kick game in full chic perfection. A black mini dress, gold accessories, and a popping red lip complimented her Air Jordan 10 Retros.

Throwback Kicks: Cassie x Air Jordan 1 'Black x Gold' 2003

Back in 2006, a fresh-faced beauty leaped onto the music scene and had us jamming to her R.Les produced single "Me & U" for a solid five months. That beauty is Cassie, and if you were a fan of the debut single from Diddy's number 1 girl you also probably remember her video for "Me & U." The visual, directed by Ray Kay, features a dance sequence by the singer/model clad in the very best in 2006 fashion and a nice nod to the 2003 release of the Air Jordan 1 'Black x Gold.' me-u-cassie-19372973-1280-576

Nice one, Cassandra.

Snaps: Married To The Mob Jumps To The Man In Spring 2015 Lookbook

New York-based brand, Married To The Mob (MTTM) has released their Spring 2015 lookbook. And, per usual, the collection maintains its street-laced roots and brings back some of MMTM's classic pieces. Logos and graphics abound throughout the collection as matching sweatsuits combine with swimwear, cropped sweats and that infamous "B*tch" Box MMTM got into supreme trouble for a few years back. The brand also channels its inner Jumpman as the model in this seasons lookbook strikes a pose in some clean AJ 11 "Concord" kicks. married-to-the-mob-2015-spring-lookbook-7

Married To The Mob’s Spring 2015 collection is now available at select retailers and the brand’s own web shop.

Kendall Jenner is fast becoming a sneaker favorite! The older Jenner sister was photographed post fashion show in Paris rocking a Saint Laurent fur biker jacket, $295 Céline ZZ Top shades and these $640 Saint Laurent Leather High-Top Sneakers.

Rita Ora was spied making her way to Chateau Marmont in an outfit that screams, "I DO WHAT I WANT." The singer hit the LA streets in a silver pleated skirt, a $425 Raf Simons Rollercoaster Sweater, and our fave, Converse Chuck Taylor Classics in Black/White.

Last, but not least, Olivia Palermo didn't let snow deter a shopping trip in NYC! The fashionista picked up a few goodies in a pair of Nike Free Run 5.0+ kicks, leather pants, a green fur coat, and topped it off with a gorgeous Smythson 1887 Leather Tote in Cognac.

In their September 2014 Style Issue the folks over at STATUS Magazine forego gowns and four-inch heels for sweats, jays, and cutie Mila J. The pint-sized singer (and sister to Jhene Aiko) struck a few poses for photographer Isaac Sterling laced to perfection courtesy of stylist Lo Von Rumpf in the AJ III "New York Knicks," the AJ IV, and the AJ V. Fashion Week brought out a ton of kick-loving ladies (and a few men...) as New York was alive with buzz.  Teyana Taylor, Rihanna, Daisy Lowe, and even Amy Astley showed sneak love in the Big Apple, while Amber Rose jaywalked with Wiz, and Gwen Stefani took to mommy duty in Puma wedges.  Rita Ora tops our list of most kicks per post, yet again, as she showed off her impressive adidas Originals Collection across the pond in London Town. Who grabs your vote for Chick of the Week!?!

Wishlist: Air Jordan Future "Deep Burgundy"

When the Air Jordan Future first caught my eye, I was pretty darn sure that I'd need a pair added to my collection and, it seems, many of you have felt the same as Jordan Brand releases yet another colorway of the popular shoe. This Fall, the design geniuses in Beaverton will unleash the Air Jordan Future "Deep Burgundy" version of the AJ11-inspired lifestyle shoe complete with an entirely synthetic upper decked in burgundy and gold weaving (!!!).

The “Deep Burgundy” AJ Future "Deep Burgundy" is already available via select Jordan Brand retailers and sneaker boutiques (*cough*Sneaker Politics*cough*) ringing in at $150 USD.

Me likey. Me likey, a lot.

Preview: Air Jordan 2014 Holiday Lineup

Jordan Brand is holding a preview of the 2014 Holiday lineup in NYC this week and thanks to @DeadstockNYC & @SheGotGame, we've got visuals of some of the newbies on display. The brand that Michael and Tinker built are hitting us with more than a few goodies as the summer months wind down and winter rears her ice-like head. Early looks at the AJ 6 "Infrared" and AJ 13 "Grey Toe" aren't shockers, but we do find ourselves poised for a slow clap with sneak peeks of the "Bred" 13's and the newly leather-clad Air Jordan Future.

There are also new XX9's in a black and white elephant print colorway complete with the new weave technology that Jordan Brand has been trumpeting for its latest signature shoe.

Let us know which of these holiday releases you ladies (and lads) are looking forward to the most.

We've been doing #CelebKicks via our Tumblr page for a short time, but I decided to go with my gut and move it over to this here site so you folks can get a look at the goods without having to hunt. That said, our favorite kick-loving females are bizzack this week as we kick off Celeb Kick Wednesdays. Rihanna reigns supreme with two entries while Iggy, Rita, and even a Kardashian bring up the rear in Jordan Brand, Adidas and Nike, respectively. Jessica Alba throws strikes in her three stripes and even Lily Allen, Teyana Taylor, and everyone's favorite "Anaconda" Nicki Minaj get in with the action in retro form.

Who brought out the best kicks this week? Check out the goods below and let us know in the comments section.

Kick Notes: Chan-Lo, The Hair & Jordan Spizike "Bordeaux"

As much as I try to keep busy, sometimes I just need a night with my homies. Lucky for me Blaq was there to document my kickback sneaks after a few laughs and Avenger foolery. Read more

Screen shot 2014-07-29 at 12.06.43 AM

Simple was the word of the evening so I did just that in a simple white tank and black BDG High-Rise Seamed Jeans, but I skewed from simple and went all the way left in a pair of uber colorful Jordan Spizikes. The 2011 "Bordeaux" kicks are definitely a pair I tend to break out once or twice every summer simply because they seem pretty darn appropriate from June-August and they happen to be one of the most comfortable pairs of Jordans I own.

Screen shot 2014-07-29 at 12.07.02 AM

Win and win.

A little Desert Rose blush paired with a simple swipe of EOS lip balm in Pomegranate Raspberry and I was all sorts of kickback ready.

What do you think?

P.S. To those of you who keep inquiring about the hair products I use, peep the rundown: Shea Moisture's Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk along with Miss Jessie's Crème de la Crème Conditioner.

#CNK | Jordan Brand's Derek Jeter “RE2PECT” Commercial Is Amazing

As Derek Jeter says farewell to Major League Baseball, Jordan Brand pays tribute to the future Hall Of Famer in one of the greatest television spots I've seen in a minute. Yankee fans will feel the sentiment more than other, but players and fans can tip their hats to this display of gratitude.

You aren't alone, either. Former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Spike Lee, Carmelo Anthony, Billy Crystal, JAY Z, and even Action Bronson tip their hats to a man who became the epitome of Yankee baseball. Here's to you, #2.

#CNK | AJ 1 Retro '99 "Black Toe" x "Thunder"

As one of the more prominent silhouettes in Michael Jordan’s personal line, the Air Jordan 1 has become a sought after staple shoe due, in most part, to its versatility. It happens to be one in only a number of the Jordan Brand fleet that continues to mystify even when the original silhouette is mashed up with another signature shoe. Such is the case with today's  Air Jordan 1 Retro ’99 “Black Toe” x "Thunder" release. With a nod to the famed Air Jordan 14, The "Black Toe" and the "Thunder" deliver  a bit of an easy-to-digest hybrid of the two classics. Fusing the AJ 1 silhouette, the 14′s side stitch and perforations and black toe box color blocking make these two shoes that might very well end up on everyone's CNKwishlist.

Get a closer look at the "Black Toe" HERE  and the "Thunder" HERE and snag your pair today, July 9th, online and at select Jordan Brand retailers.

Coming Attractions: Air Jordan 11 Retro Low “Concord”

Ahem. So, the house that Tinker and Michael built continues to churn out goodies for our consumption. One of those goodies happens to come in this weekend's return of the AJ 11 "Concord" Low. The low rendition of the popular silhouette (did you miss our last CNK feature's obsession with the shoe?) comes back after the it's last retro showing in 2011 and bring back the white upper/signature patent leather panel.

I'm also eyeing these icy blue soles. Aren't you?

The Air Jordan 11 Retro Low “Concord” will be available THIS Saturday (May 3rd) via the Nike online shop and select Jumpman retailers.

CNK: Air Jordan 1 KO "Royal"

Looks like Jordan brand decided to throw in another doozy following last week's release of the AJ 1 Retro "Chicago" KO High. The newly previewed Air Jordan 1 KO “Royal” will probably cause a similar stir as Jordan Flight Club releases first images of the Fall AJKO.

Does this land on your 2014 kicks you must cop list? Let us know in the c-section and stay tuned for more deets and more pics as they become available.

Chicks N' Kicks: Jonnell Chavez | AJ 13 Retro CDP.

Name: Jonnell ChavezAge: 25 Location: Formerly Triple D, Now West Coast Steezin’ Occupation: Designer x Creator x Graphic Artist Kicks Shown: Air Jordan 13 Retro CDP Website/Contact: |

Despite her tiny frame (she's 5'2") Jonnell Chavez is nothing to take lightly. Self-described as "sexy with a dash of ratchet," the half latina beauty has not only become a design heavyweight in the male dominated graphic arts field (you might recognize her work from Draya Michele's 'FINE ASS GIRLS' campaign) but she's also beginning to take her design talents to that clothing game with the release of a small collection of items that have created quite a buzz...inside and outside of the Mary Jane crowd.

We sat down with Jonnell to talk motivation, inspiration and 'Ratchet Season' all while she rocked a mean pair of AJ 13's.

CL: For those who may not be familiar, tell us a bit about Jonnell Chavez.

JC: An artist and designer. A bit outside the box and non-traditional. I’m weird… I embrace my weirdness… it works for me.

CL: One has to be quite the creative personality to do what you do. Talk to us about how you got into the design game and how it’s changed, for you, as your business has grown from infancy.

JC: I fell into it actually. Originally I wanted to pursue audio engineering, however, I took an instant love once exposed to design. That was many moons ago…when I was designing flyers for $45.00.

Design is constantly evolving, as am I. I have recently made a shift to move away from designing nightlife flyers to focus more on business branding such as logos, packaging, websites, etc. You can see by visiting my website =)

CL: LOL! There goes that branding! You’ve really had a hand in creating a number of eye-catching designs. Which would you say was a design that has helped put a stamp on who you are as a creative eye?

JC: I think my design style period is what has captured people. It’s feminine yet, not super frilly and girly. Recently, what really solidified things was designing the FINE ASS GIRLS street wear brand for Draya Michele of Basketball Wives.

CL: Websites, logos, full-scale graphics – you pretty much do it all. Why did you decide to go into business for yourself instead of taking your talents elsewhere?

JC: Welp, design is the only thing I have stuck with in life. I got fired or quit every job I had before so one day I said, "I’m just do this from home, it’s got to work," and it worked! It took a lot of prayer and patience, though.

CL: Finish this sentence – “My personal style is ____________.”

JC: Street Chic. Sexy with a dash of ratchet. Hence, the name for my line's second collection, 'Ratchet Season.'

CL: Speaking of your line, even with the number of clients you’ve generated as a graphic artist, you’ve still managed to start your own line of apparel. How did that come about?

JC: I originally designed and started planning at the top of last year, but my designs were too intricate so I pushed it to the side. One day, I woke up and said, "It’s now or never. I have to do this." I just made the switch from doing 48-hour projects [for my graphic design company] to five day turnarounds or more so that both businesses can run smoothly.

CL: I loved your take on The-Dream’s hit with your “Dope Bish” tee as well as your simple take on the Mary Jane/Bandana combination crew. It seems as if music might play a role in your creativity when it comes to your graphics for the line. Would that be a correct assumption?

If so, how much inspiration comes from certain songs?

JC: Thank you! Music does play a role in my designs, however, I didn’t even know The-Dream had a song titled "Dope Bish" until, like, a month ago. LOL!

My next collection, 'Ratchet Season,' has been inspired from everything we deem ratchet from the early 90’s. I love playing with bandanna prints, gold...the whole west coast vibe [is an inspiration]. I have an entire 'Ratchet Season' playlist on Spotify that consists of all music that inspired this collection. There is a lot of Tupac on there. He was a real G. Ha!

CL: You're getting ahead of me again! Seeing as how you’ve just made a big move to Los Angeles, what can we expect from you in the next few months?

JC: AHHHH and it’s been the most hectic move ever, but well worth it! I will be releasing 'Ratchet Season' at the top of April and I expect to drop a few exclusive items as well that will be available on

My creative studio will be expanding with the addition of four new creative minds, so that’s something I'm looking forward to!

CL: Obviously, we love sneakers. What are a few of your favorite pairs to rock?

JC: Chucks, of course! LOL! any color is cool long as they are still G and not cheesy. I also love Nike Dunks. I think those are really cute if worn the right way.

*Writer's Note: Jonnell was originally supposed to rock a custom pair of Chuck's in our shoot, but they we uncompleted as of our call time.

CL: Anything else you’d like our readers to know?

JC: Just a reminder that 'Ratchet Season' will be out at the top of April! Visit my website and follow me on my social networks! You can find me on twitter, IG and Tumblr @JonnellChavez.

Thank you so much!
