“You ____ like a girl.” If you’re a woman, chances are you’ve heard one of the million different iterations of this phrase at some point in your life. This phrase takes a stab at girlhood and suggests that being a girl is something to be ashamed of, or that our feats of physical prowess don’t measure up to that of a man’s. Gender-inclusive and community-focused nonprofit Skate Like a Girl has been turning that insult on its head for 22 years, tackling the male-dominated world of skating. And now, they’re gracing Nike with their own take on the SB Dunk Low.

The Nike SB Dunk Low “Skate Like a Girl” is fresh in design but vintage in feel. Soft, worn, off-white suede makes up the upper, topped with rich maroon overlays. Artwork from creative zine designer Jess Wu is seen on the heel, where two decorated hands grasp each other in support. An upside down swoosh sits within the Skate Like a Girl logo on the tongue, stitched into a corduroy collar. Light brown outsoles wrap up this retro skater shoe.
