World renowned tennis player Naomi Osaka has become a force to be reckon with. Osaka is not only a tennis player but a tennis champion, role model, social-justice advocate, multicultural star, gamer and more. Not only has she proven herself on the tennis court, she has always ensured to shed light on important issues such as racial inequality and mental health.

Recently, the decorated tennis star has come under fire for withdrawing from the French Open after being fined for declining to speak at press conferences. She stated that these press conferences took a significant toll on her mental health and created serious self-doubt. Although some athletes have come out in support of the French Open’s decision to fine Osaka for her refusal to speak at press conferences and stating that this is a direct breach of her contract, those in support of her largely outnumber those against her. It has shed light on the importance of mental health, putting yourself first, and not being afraid to take a step back and seek help in whatever form it may be.
