Sneaker Diary: Yoga, Trap Music, and Proper Kicks

When i was asked to attend (and participate) in a Trap Yoga event, I was skeptical. Don’t get me wrong! I’m an avid listener of trap music, but I had never done yoga in my life. You have to admit that doing downward dog positions to Yo Gotti sounds interesting.

GETTIN' LACED... REAL PROPER LIKE.

First things first, what does a girl wear?? Luckily, I connected with a new perfect sneaker store right in the heart of my city. Proper HTX made it’s mark on the Houston scene about a month ago. We are a large city and having a diverse mix of sneaker stores outside of your franchise retailers is important because it allows you be apart of a closer knit community. Proper HTX gives Houston a breath of fresh air with a different, cool west coast vibe. With their original store hailing from Long Beach CA, the boutique style shop expands our down south tastes with westside flavors. Even more importantly, they champion the female consumer.

Proper HTX teamed up with the Trap Yoga & Tacos event to create a dope shirt for novice and seasoned Yogis to rock. The black, lightweight long-sleeved shirt was just right for the cool Houston night and stood out with purple accents and white writing. Slogans of “Yoga Game Mean” and “Sneaker Game Clean” ran down each arm with co-branded logos on the front. A checklist of yoga, tacos, and sneakers on the backside of the shirt reminded us all of our mission for the night.

Before the event started, it was only right to run around the large venue in sneakers. LITerally. I opted to kick it in an adidas NMD R1 pack silhouette and Proper HTX gave me a vast selection of choices. Their store prides itself on having great options from the three stripes to comfy Asics, stylish Vans, and classic Converse. There is something for everyone and it allowed me to think outside the box (pun intended) regarding what to wear.

WE JUST NEED A BOOST SOMETIMES...

The adidas NMD R1 was so comfortable and I appreciated the sock-like knit upper that hugged my foot. I love colors, therefore the speckled design was just enough vibrance. The Boost midsole is equivalent to walking on clouds and my happy feet had plenty of breath ability with simultaneous support. Choosing sneakers can be a challenging decision and Proper HTX kept me laced with versatile options (which we always preach at CNK). I’ll definitely be headed back to grab some Iniki Runner Boosts soon.

Unfortunately, the adidas NMD R1 I'm rocking are almost sold out. Click here to see if your size is still available. I've also included a few additional options at the end of the post.

If you’re in Houston and down to go sneaker shopping, join me at the brick and mortar Proper HTX store in the Heights area. The staff has great customer service and treats you like part of the gang.

RAKE IT UP. 'ZEN' BACK IT UP.

Now that I had my outfit figured out, it was time for Yoga. Have you ever done Yoga with Cardi B? YOU HAVE TO TRY AT LEAST ONCE. Aside from being a sneaker enthusiast, I love music. It can take your mood and energy from 0 to 100 just like a good pair of kicks will do. The night started with relaxing warm-ups to Beyonce’s slow jams and even some old school Jodeci. The 2 dope Yogis (@awkwardyogagirl and @yogawithdavina) got the hundreds of people turnt all the way up as the music transitioned to Dj Duck's 'Bust it Open'. My personal favorite was getting low and doing a Yoga swag surf with everyone.

I have a new perspective and respect for the whole yoga experience and how challenging the moves can be. SWEAT IT OUT. TWERK IT OUT. COOL DOWN. REPEAT.
